Tour Experience and Accessibility faq

Where is your tour?

Our tours are in Joshua Tree National Park. We will send the specific location of our tour in your booking email, along with clear directions. We put a red light up at the tour site, so we are easy to spot.

Is there a Walk or Hike?

No hiking is required, as the tour takes place in a flat dirt parking lot. The only walk is from your chair to the telescope!

Is there a Bathroom?

There is a bathroom at our location. There’s no running water or electricity, so it’s a primitive toilet. It is a short walk on level ground from where we assemble.

Is there seating?

We have chairs for everyone. They have a 400 lbs weight limit, and have stiff handholds to assist people getting up and down. If that doesn't fit your needs, we will be happy to accommodate, just let us know what we need to help you sit comfortably. There is also a pillow pile for people to lay down to stargaze.

Can we take pictures?

While our tour is not focused on astrophotography we will have pictures to share with you from our digital telescope. We are also happy to take pictures of your group for you at the end of the night. We encourage you to avoid looking at screens during the tour. If you want to see as many see as many stars as possible, your eyes need to adjust and the bright light from screens impairs your night vision.

Is there an age limit?

Kids are welcome over 6 years old. Kids bring a wonderful enthusiasm to our tours that brings out the kiddo in all of us. We offer a reduced price for kids between 6-12 years old to encourage families to join us. If you’d like to bring a younger child, please look into a private tour. There is no upper age limit. If anyone in your group needs accommodation for their comfort and safety, please email or call us so we can prepare for the best experience.

What should I wear?

Temperatures in the High Desert vary significantly with the seasons. Light layers are appropriate for summer months. In Winter, gear up! Temperatures regularly reach freezing. Base layers (like long johns) will help keep you warm. Gloves are very helpful. Also layering socks with thick soled shoes will improve your comfort. We have blankets and hats with ear warmers for you. Closed toed shoes are the safest choice all year round.

Can we bring our pets?

Please no pets, unless temps are appropriate for them to remain in the car. During summer and winter, temperatures are too extreme to plan on leaving a pet in the car. Feel free to check in with us about conditions when you are planning to visit.

How many people are on a tour?

We have a maximum group size of 10 for public tours. We also have a two-guest minimum. If we only have one guest booked, we will gladly reschedule you.

Can we use a rideshare service?

Uber/Lyft and other rideshare services do not work for this experience, as we are in an area of the National Park with no cell reception. There are private transportation services available, but arrangements must be made independently with those services in advance.

Is there a Fee to enter Joshua Tree National Park?

If you would like to enter and enjoy the park early in the day, the entry fee is $15 per person. The Fee Booth usually closes at 6pm, after which you can enter without charge. Gates to the park are open 24 hours a day.

Can we bring our own drinks?

Please no Alcohol on our public tour. If you’re planning a Private Tour and you’re interested in bringing alcoholic beverages please contact us.

If you have any other questions, please
contact us. We’d be glad to answer them.
